Apple Launches 4 New iPhone 12s With Magnetic Accessories, “Mini” Version & Cinema-Worthy Displays

2020 iPhone 12 Singapore launch

The iPhone 12 is coming to Singapore, and you know the drill: excited debates about some game-changing new feature, snaking queues at the Apple Store and envious glances in the MRT when someone whips out the latest, hottest gadget.

Apple’s four newest options, the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max come in various sizes and features to fit a range of budgets. Freshly redesigned, and with toughness and performance gains, they offer good value for those upgrading their smartphones this year.

The newest addition to Apple’s yearly palette, blue is the colour to get this year – of course, it’s also a clear flex of who’s got the latest iPhone.

Compared to the iPhone 11 last year, the iPhone 12 features three main improvements while retaining the same price that starts from SGD 1,149.

First off, you’ll get the “Pro” iPhone Super Retina XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) OLED displays – an upgrade from the LCD screens you used to get for the same price. With these new displays, expect better resolution, contrast and more vivid colours. You’ll also be able to fully enjoy cinematic Dolby Vision titles on Netflix like “The Haunting of Bly Manor”.

Next, the screen itself has been augmented with Ceramic Shield tech to reduce the chance of breaking when dropped – by up to four times.

Lastly, the iPhone 12 now comes in two sizes: the regular 6.1-inch iPhone 12 (from $1,299), and the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini (from $1,149).

iPhone 12 Pro & iPhone 12 Pro Max – cinema-grade cameras

With a solid chunk of time spent on our smartphones, some might want something a little extra. Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro is available in two sizes: the regular 6.1-inch version (from $1,649), and the large 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max (from $1,799)

Both Pro models will come in a choice of four colours, complete with an elegant glossy stainless steel frame. Same as the iPhone 12 phones, the iPhone 12 Pro sports the same Ceramic Shield front glass and high-contrast OLED display.

But for the extra few hundred dollars, the iPhone 12 Pro sets itself apart in terms of camera quality. Targeting photography enthusiasts, both the Pro and the Pro Max phones feature cinema-grade video stabilisation and a new LiDAR (Light Radar) sensor that focuses six times faster in dark environments.

Costing $650 more than the base iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 Pro Max takes things even further by improving camera performance in low light by 87% with a larger sensor and new telephoto lens.

New MagSafe magnetic chargers, cases and accessories

With PayLah!, GrabPay and a whole host of e-payment options in Singapore, many of us are starting to leave our homes without our wallets. To help you tote your essential cards, all four iPhone 12 models now have MagSafe – which use an array of strong magnets on the back of the phone to latch onto accessories like the iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe ($89).

MagSafe can also be used with the MagSafe Charger ($59) – which uses the arrangement of magnets to align the wireless charging coil for more efficient charging that’s less prone to heating up. You can also expect accessories like car mounts and travel chargers that are in the pipeline.

iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro & Pro Max Singapore pricing and availability

The new iPhones will now ship without Lightning earphones and charging wall adapter, allowing them to be packed into a slimmer box to reduce carbon emissions during transport.

Arriving slightly later, the iPhone 12 mini (from $1,149) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (from $1,799) can be preordered from Friday, 6th November and will be available beginning 13th November.
