4 Days in Jeju. Day 2 – Mysterious Road, World Cultural Heritage Centre and our ATV experience

Jeju Day 2

In Day 1 of our Jeju Trip, we explored Hallim Park, Glass Castle and the O’Sulloc Tea Museum. In Day 2, we continued on our self-driving adventure and visited three more attractions. We decided to start with the mythical Mysterious Road.

Mysterious Road

As the name suggests, part of the Dokkaebi Road is “mysterious” because objects – cars included – happen to travel downwards on a road that is seemingly going upwards. We experienced this phenomenon ourselves!

We turned off our car engine and let gravity do its work – the car moved without me pressing on the pedal. Apparently this is caused by the optical illusion of the road’s high surroundings, so if you’re intending to drive around Jeju, definitely visit the Dokkaebi Road!

World Cultural and Natural Heritage Centre

Jeju’s World Cultural and Natural Heritage Centre is dedicated to informing the public about Jeju’s origins, geological importance and significance, and reinforcing its status as one of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage, and of Korea’s first World Natural Heritage.

Watch a 4D film about a mythological tale that features Jeju’s main attractions like the Manjang Cave, Gimnyeong Cave, Geomunoreum, Bijarim Forest, Jeongbang Falls, Andeok Valley, Seongsan Ilchulbong, Mt. Halla and Baeknokdam, or visit the centre’s many exhibition spaces to learn more about Jeju’s natural and geoglogical history.

Our ATV Experience

Jeju has a lot of land and its surrounded by a lot of nature. Throw in a All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and you have the recipe for perfect day out.

If you are a sucker for adventure, Jeju offers multiple ATV experiences which you can find near you. Just put on the provided mud-protective gear and prepared to get muddy and dirty on the ATV routes of various lengths and complexity!

You can’t find this in Singapore so we were really excited to finally try this out.

Craving more Jeju?

Check out Day 3 of our series, where we take a look at Sseongsan Sunrise Peak and the Pyeoseon Jeju Folk Village Museum. Also be sure to check out this video we filmed while we were exploring Jeju!

If you’re looking for a different type of holiday with driving, Jeju is one of those places which just makes sense to rent a car and explore. And if you’re the type who would rather travel in a convoy, you can consider the self-drive packages that are offered by the Automobile Association of Singapore.

They usually have special “autoventure” bundled packages for groups.
