Lorong Halus Wetland: Hidden Dirt Tracks & Sunset Bridge Near Coney Island

Lorong Halus Wetland

Coney Island and Punggol Waterway Park are popular destinations you’d have heard endless things about. Within a stone’s throw away from them is Lorong Halus Wetland, a picturesque area that promises to whisk you out of Singapore, with ponds surrounded by tall reeds and white rocky fields, a hidden dirt track, and a bridge where you can get a perfect view of the sunset.

Lorong Halus Wetland – reed fields and obscure dirt tracks

A little spot that Pasir Ris and Punggol folks have been keeping under the radar is Lorong Halus Wetland, sandwiched in between the two neighbourhoods. You’ll really only pass by it if you’re cycling or walking through the area’s Park Connector Networks (PCNs).

Frolic in wide open spaces with the only telltale sign that you’re on the little red dot being teeny tiny HDBs far off in the distance. Enjoy unobstructed views of the sky, ponds surrounded by tall water reeds and white rocky landscapes unlike anywhere else in Singapore.

To no surprise, it has become a contender to Tuas for “lalang field” photography – with a bit of filters smacked on, you’ll just as easily be able to tell the world you’re in New Zealand or Aussie. Little do most of us know, the area used to be a landfill decades ago. You can find signs dotted around the area, chronicling how the area has transformed over the years.

The trails around the main wetland area are well paved and easy to wander through, but if you’re up for some adventure, there’s an obscure dirt track accessible by a dirt path along the fenced up area. Read our guide to undiscovered trails in Singapore for more details on the tracks.

Right next to the wetlands, the Lorong Halus Red Bridge takes you across the scenic Punggol Serangoon Reservoir, and lays the ground for the perfect spot to catch the sunset, with almost nothing between you and the blazing orange sky.

It’s not uncommon to spot monkeys hanging around the bridge – while they’re not known to be aggressive, be sure to keep any food stowed safely away in your bag. The bridge also takes you right to the start of Punggol Waterway, and you can reach Waterway Point within a short ~10-minute (3KM) bike ride

Note: Lorong Halus Bridge will be closed 7th-10th June 2021, from 11PM-6AM.

Visit Lorong Halus Wetland

Lorong Halus is not the most accessible of locations, but then again, the best nature parks in Singapore are often not the most easy to reach. It’s obscurity simply adds to its charm, whereby you can enjoy more nature with less humans and more wildlife: the area’s a popular nesting spot for birds!

Getting there: From Punggol MRT, take an LRT to Riviera Station. Take Exit A and walk 15 minutes via Punggol Promenade Riverside Walk to get to Lorong Halus Wetland.
