No matter what your favourite subject in school is, let’s face it – science is pretty darn mind-boggling. Between all the amazing things we’ve seen during lab experiments and at the Science Centre, it’s no surprise that these displays can inspire us to want to do more.

If you’re itching to make your ideas a reality, Samsung’s annual innovation competition a.k.a. Solve For Tomorrow 2020 competition is back for you to join. To encourage creativity amongst students, participants will be challenged to conceive new ideas while addressing social issues, with the winning teams receiving more than $150,000 worth of prizes in total.

Check out the rundown of this year’s competition to get started.

Pitch your ideas to tackle real-life issues

Finding solutions for environmental sustainability will be one of the themes to address this year

To get started, here are the themes for this year:

  • Environmental Sustainability – addressing existing environmental issues
  • Active Ageing – helping the elderly to lead active lives
  • Health & Well-Being – promoting a healthy lifestyle amongst Singaporeans
  • Inclusive, Harmonious Society – fostering a caring society

Participants will be split into two categories. Post-secondary school students will fall under the first category and work with a teacher-mentor, while uni students will go under the second category.

Let your imagination go wild as you conceptualise your idea

There’ll be multiple rounds of selection to take note of, so listen up. If you want to join, start forming your own team pronto. From now till 6th April 2020, send in your submissions with a short 200-word paragraph detailing your idea, where entries will be judged based on relevance to the issue, feasibility, and creativity.

Following that, if you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited to attend several prototyping workshops, so be sure to go for them for extra tips to bring your entries to the next level. There’ll be one final round of selection, where it’ll come down to the top 5 teams for each category to battle it out for the top prize.

Win up to $150,000 worth of prizes

Of course, the further you go, the higher your chance to snag some sweet prizes. Aside from a huge cash prize of $6,000, you’ll also stand to bring home $10,000 worth of Samsung gadgets – one of which is the snazzy new Samsung Galaxy S20.

And it doesn’t just stop there. You’ll also gain an invaluable 3-month internship experience with Samsung Electronics Singapore, as well as an additional 4D3N study trip to the Samsung HQ in Suwon, South Korea – all things that will stand out on your resume.
