3. Park 22 Hotel Little India – From $73

Standing in stark contrast to its colourful surroundings, it’s hard to miss the monochromatic shophouses that make Park Hotel 22 Little India. Just minutes away from Rochor MRT station and a short walk from Bugis, this little 3-star hotel is just the thing for lovers of convenience and of course, Indian food.

For $73/night, their The Cosy is small and has no windows but comes tastefully decorated and stocked with all your hotel necessities, a flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi. While some might feel claustrophobic without a view, having no windows does block out the 24-hour hustle of the streets below.

4. The Great Madras – From $51

What used to stand in place of The Great Madras might’ve spelt seedy all round, but this Wes Anderson-esque 34-room hotel/hostel is quite possibly the hippest boutique hotel in town. From exterior to interior, aesthetics reign as king and every eclectic touch from bold wallpapers to neon lights make for epic photo opportunities around every bend.

And although their rooms with ensuite bathrooms do exceed our price cap, you can still score a private bed in their co-living space for just $51. The Great Madras really tests one’s limits with their rooms starting from just 8m², but what’s a little squeeze when you’re given access to the rest of the hotel’s facilities to potentially have a fresh-to-death IG feed?

Decked out with a queen-sized bed, overhead lights, a bedside lamp, a mirror, and a flat-screen LCD TV of your own – The Luxury Mixed Hostel rooms actually are actually the same size as the next room category. You can also take comfort in the fact that their communal bathrooms look just as bomb as the rest of the hotel.

5. Venue Hotel The Lily in Joo Chiat- From $64

If you’ve got wild love for the East side but never get to hang around the area because it’s just too far out from your hood, you’ll be happy to find Venue Hotel The Lily. Right smack on Joo Chiat Road, this small boutique hotel is merely a 5-minute walk to i12 Katong, Parkway Parade, Little Vietnam, and the many restaurants of Katong.

Their Standard Queen and Superior Queen rooms are going for $64 and $72 respectively on Trip.com and the only difference between the two is the presence of a window. What you see is pretty much what you get, but if you have any special requests, their 24-hour front desk staff are always ready to help.

6. Venue Hotel in Joo Chiat- From $64

It stands true that you can usually gauge how lupsup a hotel is from its lobby, and one glance at Venue Hotel’s will tell you that the only lupsup you’ll find, is at the KTV next door.
Located just down the road from Venue Hotel The Lily, Venue Hotel in Joo Chiat almost looks like a carbon copy except for its white swing doors. It has the same black-and-white exterior, room categories, and even room pricing but they are two different hotels.

They also offer Standard Double and Superior Double rooms for $64 and $72 and each room is decorated with a pop of colour. And while small, the toilets in all their rooms come with a glass partition so your toiletries won’t all be soaked after a shower.

7. Hotel NuVE Heritage, Bugis – From $89

Just one street away from hipster enclave Haji Lane, Hotel NuVE is a quaint little boutique hotel on Arab Street that caters to single travellers and couples on a budget. Their Quaint Queen Room and Deluxe King Room are both aesthetically pleasing and can comfortably sleep 2 if you aren’t the sort to pack a lot with you.

Apart from all your expected amenities, they also go above and beyond their 3-star rating with their complimentary mini bar which is replenished daily for the duration of your stay.

8. Hotel Mono – From $94

Housed in 6 charming, Art Deco conservation shophouses, the 46-room Hotel Mono is visually arresting from the outside in. One might even be surprised to see it sitting in the middle of Chinatown.
A minimalist’s dream come true, each room here is a neat presentation of white walls, black furnishing, and bold geometric beams running across the ceiling – adding depth and character to an otherwise bare room.

And though there aren’t many frills, the devil is in the details. Their Small Double Room comes with a custom King Koil spring bed and micro-gel fibre pillows to guarantee you a good night’s rest.
Their room prices rarely fall below $100 on their website, but if luck is on your side and you book in advance, you could shave up to 25% off your hotel stay.

9. Champion Hotel (Joo Chiat) – From $52

Also down the Joo Chiat stretch is Champion Hotel. The name alone ranks quite highly on the lupsup meter, but this hotel is surprisingly a lot more decent than it sounds. The reception itself gives off cosy and communal hostel vibes, and there’s a little nook just beyond the check-in desk with couches and a cocoon swing.

At just $52 and $63 respectively, their Superior Double Room without Window and Deluxe Double Room with Window both come with a closet, mini fridge, and electric kettle. There’s even an additional seating area that can be used for propping open your luggage if you’re a heavy-handed packer.

Just because you can’t afford a luxury staycation, don’t mean you have to deny yourself one. This list of non-lupsup hotels under $110 prove that desperate times don’t call for desperate measures and if there’s a will, there’s a way – which doesn’t involve settling for Hotel 81.
