Every Singaporean would be familiar with Johor Bahru – but the true fans of our friendly neighbour across the causeway? You guys would know about Desaru Coast, a beach resort enclave just about an hour’s drive away from central JB. Very soon, all that separates us would be a short ride via Desaru Link Ferry Services.

A quick introduction to Desaru Coast: it’s home to a myriad of resorts such as The Westin, Hard Rock Hotel, One&Only and the recently-opened Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas. Google it and you’ll find images of sandy beaches as well as a water park, perfect for a weekend escapade.

Previously, a trip to Desaru Coast entails either traffic jams at the causeway or a boat ride to Tanjung Belungkor Ferry Terminal topped with a 35-minute drive.
With the newly-opened Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal and its upcoming ferry service to Singapore, we can anticipate a direct transport option that’ll drop visitors off within a few kilometres of the area’s main resorts.

Desaru Link Ferry Services, a subsidiary of Batam Fast Ferry, will shuttle travellers between Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal and Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Desaru Coast has announced that this service is slated to have 1 round trip available from Mondays to Wednesdays, and 2 round trips available from Thursdays to Sundays for the weekend crowd. Each ferry would also carry between 150-338 passengers for a start.

The launch date of this ferry service has yet to be shared, but what we do know is that things will depend on border restrictions. With Malaysia’s international checkpoints opening on 1st April 2022, we may be able to start packing our luggage, swimsuits and sunglasses very soon.
