We live in a clean and polished concrete jungle, so it’s not surprising that many kiddos in Singapore haven’t yet experienced tumbling around in mud. Well, if you’ve always wanted to let them unleash their more “primal” side, there’s a tonne of dirt waiting to be excavated, dug, and played with at Diggersite, a new construction-themed playground in Yishun.

Bob the Builder wannabees aged 2 and up can head to this novel play concept near ORTO At Yishun, next to The Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum of Singapore. Here, they can operate mini heavy machinery and get down and dirty at a small area with a sand pit, bouncy castle, and obstacle course.

The highlight of this unique playground is the token-operated mini-diggers where kids can play construction worker for a day, complete with safety helmets and vests that will be provided while they’re there. Each kid will get 3 rides lasting 5 minutes each.

Juniors can operate the machinery on their own, or on the lap of an adult if they’re still a little small. Getting the hydraulically-operated arms to pick up objects might need a bit of hand-eye coordination, so mum or dad can lend a helping hand – and join in the building fun with objects like logs, blocks, and tyres.

Those below 4 will require adult supervision, but parents won’t need to worry about safety because there are marshals on hand to give guidance at all times.

Construction-themed sandpits, obstacle courses and rides

Sensory play is one of the best ways for kids to learn. So after they’re done with the big diggers, kids can let their imaginations run wild with construction themed toys, wheelbarrows and spades in the sand pits.

Here, they can build everything they want – sandcastles and sculptures – with the help of the toys provided, or use their hands to develop their tactile skills while getting a healthy dose of fresh air and sunlight.

There’s also a mini bouncy castle shaped like – you guessed it – an excavator. The play area includes a small obstacle course with tyres and planks so they can hone their climbing and balancing skills for even more sweaty fun.

When your kid needs a break from building, jumping and climbing all afternoon, they can rest their legs on a tractor-driven ride with seats that fit adults and kids. Once they’ve caught their breath, they can play on even more mini replicas of construction vehicles.

Dig and learn at Diggersite Yishun

If you dig experiential learning with your kids, and don’t mind getting a bit muddy in the process, Diggersite is a fun way to spend a sunny weekend afternoon. Just remember to wear shoes or sandals that don’t slip off easily, and bring sunnies, sunblock and lots of water.

They’re also open for birthday party bookings, so you might want to keep that in mind for a unique celebration for your kids.
