April Fool’s Day might be over, but we ain’t fooling you when we say this month’s new cafes and restaurants are bussin’. From futuristic meal pods to an “underwater” cafe, our food scene continues to flourish, giving us plenty more options for date night and weekend hangs.

1. Bamboo Bowls – Futuristic serving pods with $10 grain bowls
Enjoy your meal at the open-concept staircase seats.

You’ll be in for an interesting dining experience at Bamboo Bowls, where you can collect your food from the walls of the cafe. After ordering, simply pick them up from the serving “pods” and head over to their mini-fridge for something to drink – they’ve got free-flow tea too!

Their organic grain bowls are all priced at an affordable $10, with flavours inspired by Asian cuisines like Balinese, Indian and Japanese. There’s also the option to personalise your meals with add-ons like ethically-sourced meat protein and low-carb alternatives.

2. Haus217 – Japanese-style pop-up cafe

With cosy studio-like wood interiors and a shop front that resembles a retro shophouse, Haus217 is a quiet pop-up cafe just 7 minutes from Lavender MRT.

Unlike your typical eatery where you can just stroll in for a meal, this cafe only takes online reservations on selected days, which can be checked on their website. Once you’ve snagged a slot, just head down and enjoy their locally-inspired bakes and mains.

Upper Thomson is pretty much Singapore’s cafe central, and its latest addition is State of Affairs. The coffeehouse opens at 6am on weekends, making it a great pit stop for early risers craving a cuppa before a weekend hike at the nearby MacRitchie Reservoir.

4. Soul Coffee – Robot barista & “underwater” photo ops

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live in the ocean like The Little Mermaid, you’ll get a glimpse of it at Soul Coffee. With floor-to-ceiling wall projections of coral reefs and marine animals, it won’t take long for you to feel transported underwater.
The cafe also features an extra futuristic touch thanks to George Hillary – Singapore’s first AI robot barista. Said to have gone through 3,000 hours of training, this smart little guy can brew a Pourover Coffee ($9.90) for you.

5. K. Patisserie – Pastel pink interior & handmade cakes

Pazzion – sound familiar? You might know the brand as a shoe store that’s got stores in malls all around Singapore. It’s also recently opened concept cafes, with its latest outlet at Takashimaya.
The cafe has vegan and vegetarian options, including ingredients like organic eggs.

11. Chatterbox – “Premium” chicken rice

Singaporeans love chicken rice – it’s basically our national dish. But if you’re looking to try a more “premium” experience besides having it at your neighbourhood coffeeshop, try Chatterbox instead.

12. SweeT.Rex – 1-for-1 souffle pancakes in April

Thanks to a myriad of restaurants and cafes lining its streets, Tanjong Pagar is the spot for foodies. SweeT.Rex is the new kid on the block – once a humble store at Alexandra Village Food Centre, the dessert spot has just opened a second branch at International Plaza.
They’re currently having a 1-for-1 souffle pancake deal from now till 30th April 2022. Besides ordering their signature jiggly pancakes, be sure to try the cheesecakes too. The Basque burnt cheesecake is a hot fave, with other flavours like tiramisu and matcha.

7. NOX – “Surprise” menu with visually impaired hosts

For a meal like no other, check out NOX – Dine In The Dark’s new location that’s just a 5-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT. As its name suggests, you’ll be eating in complete darkness the entire time. Yep, that also means you won’t know what you’re eating till it’s in your mouth.
During the meal, patrons will also get to experience what life is like for the visually impaired community. Hosts from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) will ensure your dinner remains enjoyable throughout, and you can guess your meals at the lighted lounge bar afterwards.
